Chamber Choir The Chamber Choir consists of the Choir Gentlemen together with sopranos (and lady altos) from within the church and further afield. They normally rehearse for a few weeks before an event with the Gentlemen on a Friday night after the boys have left, and sing several services each term at times when the boys and/or girls are on holiday or are not available. These include regular services such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Midnight Eucharist, as well as other services such as All Saints’ Day or All Souls’ Day, annual Commemoration of the Departed, and an Epiphany Carol Service. We are always pleased to meet potential new members, sopranos or altos, or indeed male tenors and basses who cannot make the regular commitment that the Choir Gentlemen are expected to make. Choral singing experience is essential, particular good sight reading skills, and some experience singing the English Cathedral repertoire is desirable due to the difficulty of the music and high standards. Recent repertoire has included: Missa aeterna Christe munera Palestrina; Missa O quam gloriosum Victoria; Missa Papae Marcelli Palestrina; Messe Solennelle Vierne; Missa à 4 Byrd; Communion Service in the Phrygian Mode Wood; Missa Brevis in G Mozart. Salvator mundi Tallis; A Litany Walton; O Saviour of the world Ouseley; O how glorious Harwood; God is gone up Finzi; Rise up, my love Willan; Christus factus est Bruckner; Hodie Christus natus est Sweelinck; Noel nouvelet Stephen Jackson; Benedicamus domino Warlock; When to the temple Mary went Eccard; Bethlehem down Warlock; There shall a star Mendelssohn; Miserere mei Allegri; Crucifixus Lotti; The Reproaches Sanders; O taste and see Vaughan Willaims. |
